The step-by-step export procedures presented in this guidebook were developed through field research involving 24 in-depth interviews with actors in the private sector and Afghan Government officials. It is important to note that the suggested modes of transportation for key products in this guidebook are based on conventional wisdom related to value-to-weight ratios. For example, we suggest that cashmere be transported by air cargo, considering that cashmere has a very high ratio of value to weight. This does not mean that cashmere cannot be transported overland by truck, and there are documented cases where this has taken place.
